Just saw this news about onion farmers protesting again on highway, and honestly,it feels like we are stuck in same loop. Every few months, same story.
On June 2,the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) organized a protest along Pune-Nashik Highway . Their main demand is for a minimum support price (MSP) of ₹3,000 per quintal for onions . And you can see why they are so desperate.
The whole protest is happening because of how badly onion prices have fallen . Reports are saying prices have dropped to less than ₹2 per kilogram. Just think about that for a second. Less than ₹2 ah .
And this is where situation gets really serious for them.
State Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal was leading the whole thing, and he basically voiced what every farmer there was feeling . He said they have worked tirelessly but are completely unable to recover their production costs because of this pricing .
He directly blamed the Central Government for this mess, saying this whole financial crisis is because of their flawed policies .
Some key things from this protest:
- Protest was organized by MVA on Pune-Nashik Highway on June 2.
- Farmers are demanding clear MSP of ₹3,000 per quintal for onions.
- Current prices have crashed to below ₹2/kg,making it impossible to cover costs .
And tbh,it’s just heartbreaking to see people who feed the country having to come out on road and beg for fair price . They put in all the work, all the investment, and get almost nothing back in return .
This isn't just about one protest or one crop . It’s about a system that seems to fail our farmers again and again.
You see these images of them on the highway, and you just have to wonder what it will take for things to actually change for them…
