So Nagaland is already starting preparations for Census 2027 . It feels quite early but I guess for such a huge exercise,you need to start planning well in advance.
The first phase,which is called House Listing Operation or HLO,is apparently set to begin from July 1 to 30,2026 . So still some time for that,but the background work is happening rn.
A big meeting of State Level Census Coordination Committee (SLCCC) happened on June 2 to check how ready everyone is . It was chaired by Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha.
And the scale of this whole thing is quite massive ah. Keneilhoutuolie Miachieo,the Director of Census Operations for Nagaland,presented a report. He said a total of 6,461 census functionaries have been appointed for the whole state.
Training for all these people is also a huge task . They have to train around 1,010 supervisors and 5,124 enumerators,and that is scheduled between June 8 and June 25 .
Few things standing out from their plan:
- Manpower is huge: Over 6,400 functionaries appointed statewide for this job.
- Public outreach is key: They are planning radio jingles,ads,and even social media influencers.
- High-level messaging: Messages from Governor and Chief Minister will be broadcast on All India Radio.
And honestly,it’s good they are focusing so much on public awareness . Census is not something you can do without people's cooperation. They are even making promotional videos with Dreamz Unlimited to put on YouTube and Instagram .
This is a smart move to reach younger crowd also.
But all this extensive preparation just shows how important this data is for government policies and resource allocation . Everything from schemes to funding depends on these numbers .
The committee is trying to make sure everything goes smoothly and they can handle any challenges that come up . Still,it's one thing to plan in a meeting and another to actually do it on the ground across entire state.
Wonder how this will all play out when the actual work starts…
