So ZPM has finally made its move for the Rajya Sabha seat in Mizoram . They announced their candidate K. Laltluangkima on June 3,2026. Seems like they are pretty confident about this one.
The announcement came from ZPM Vice-President C. Lalnunnema himself . He said he has full faith in Laltluangkima's ability to represent state in Delhi. This election is for the seat that's getting empty soon.
And this is a big deal ah,because it's to find successor for K. Vanlalvena from MNF . His term is officially finishing on July 19, 2026. So countdown has already started.
But let's be real, the numbers game is totally one-sided here . In the 40-member Assembly,ZPM is sitting comfortably with 27 seats. The main opposition MNF has only 10 .
And honestly, with that kind of majority,it's hard to see any other outcome.
The other parties are in even weaker position . BJP has one member and Congress has two. So it's very unlikely they will even put up a candidate. As for MNF,one of their leaders said they will announce their candidate soon, but what's the point tbh?
Few things to remember here:
- ZPM holds huge majority with 27 out of 40 Assembly seats.
- Election is scheduled for June 18,2026 to replace outgoing MNF member K. Vanlalvena.
- Nomination filing started on June 1 and last date is June 8.
The Election Commission has laid out the whole schedule . If MNF or someone else puts up candidate, then polling will happen on June 18 from 9 A.M . to 4 P.M. . And counting will be same day at 5 P.M. Scrutiny is on June 9 and last day to withdraw is June 11 .
It feels like this is more of a formality than a real contest . ZPM's win is almost guaranteed given numbers. It's just about going through the official process now .
Still,I wonder what MNF's strategy will be . Will they field a candidate just for the sake of fight,or will they just let this one go…
