So this fight between CPI(M) and CPI in Kerala is flaring up again ah . And this time it’s over the Deputy Leader of Opposition post. This isn't some new drama, this has been brewing for long time under Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's rule.
Apparently recent meeting between state secretaries of both parties completely failed . No resolution came out. Now the CPI is even thinking about sitting separately in the Assembly, which is very big step and could create serious problems for the LDF coalition.
CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam is being very clear about what his party wants . He said the CPI expects the Deputy Leader position and that there is a lot of internal pressure not to compromise with CPI(M). He even gave a quote saying,"The CPI stands with the LDF's future. CPI(M) should also show same approach."
And honestly, this is where things get really tense. It's one thing to have disagreements, but threatening to break ranks in the Assembly is another level of pressure.
This isn't first time only . During Vijayan’s first term,CPI ministers actually boycotted Cabinet meetings to show they were unhappy . Then in his second term, they strongly opposed the PM-SHRI program and made Kerala pull out of it,even after agreements were made. So there's history here .
Few things standing out in this whole situation:
- main fight is over Deputy Leader of Opposition post, which is about status and power .
- CPI is openly considering sitting separately in Assembly,a major threat to LDF unity .
- This follows a pattern of past clashes, like boycotting meetings and opposing government programs.
But for years, the CPI(M) has been the dominant partner, making most of the big decisions for the LDF . And the CPI has always been trying to make sure it has its own voice and isn't just follower. This current fight seems to be part of that same old struggle .
With the Assembly session coming closer, the pressure is on both parties to sort this out before it becomes a full-blown crisis . Political watchers are saying the result of this will affect not just the LDF but Kerala politics in general .
The leadership on both sides has to be very careful now . They need to balance their own party's ego and demands with the need to keep the whole coalition running… but how they will manage that, who knows…
