This whole drama coming out of Salt Lake is just something else ah. A senior leader from Trinamool Congress,Jay Prakash Majumdar, actually got arrested over a house rent issue .
The incident happened on June 3,2026 . Police basically apprehended him after his landlady filed a complaint. She alleged that he was illegally occupying her property.
Apparently,Majumdar and his wife had been staying in that accommodation since 2014 for a nominal rent . But the landlady claims he stopped paying rent after some time. And whenever she asked him to pay up or vacate the place,he would allegedly threaten her using his political influence .
And honestly, this is where the whole thing gets so uncomfortable. Using your political power to intimidate someone over rent is just not done.
Tensions really blew up when Majumdar tried to lock one section of property. This is when local residents got involved and started protesting against him . The public anger was quite visible, and soon Bidhannagar (North) Police had to be called in.
Things got even more dramatic when he tried to flee in his vehicle, but the local crowd literally stopped him and took his car keys . Realizing situation was serious,he promised them he would vacate house promptly, but the protests didn't stop, which led to his arrest.
Few things standing out here:
- He was arrested after his landlady complained he stopped paying rent and was occupying property illegally.
- The main allegation is that he used his political clout to threaten her repeatedly.
- Public protest from locals was what finally led to police intervention and his arrest.
And his political journey has been quite a ride too . He was originally with Congress, then switched to BJP where he was state vice-president,got suspended in 2021,and then joined Trinamool Congress in similar role .
But at the end of the day,it's not about which party you are in . This whole incident feels less like a political issue and more like one of basic conduct . A simple landlord-tenant dispute escalated into public spectacle because of alleged power abuse.
It just makes you wonder,if this is what happens in a simple rental issue in full public view, what goes on behind closed doors...
