This fire at Lemon Green Restaurant in Malviya Nagar is just devastating . 21 lives lost . It's the kind of news that just stops you in your tracks and makes you feel sick .
And now Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the MCD,which is run by BJP,is promising to take 'decisive action' . We hear this after every tragedy, that strict measures will be implemented once investigation is complete .
Satya Sharma, who is Chairperson of MCD's Standing Committee, said actions will be initiated within a week after the report is out . She said,"We have witnessed aftermath, with many victims suffering severe injuries . We are committed to ensuring such incidents do not repeat in the future."
And honestly, this is where it gets frustrating. These are good words, but will they lead to real change?
But one statement gave me some hope . Jay Bhagwan Yadav,MCD's Leader of the House, insisted that just suspending officials is not good enough. He said,"Those responsible must face substantial consequences for their actions. The loss of 21 lives is a tragedy that cannot be overlooked."
This is main point ah. A suspension is not justice for 21 people dying .
So here is what is happening rn:
- Authorities are probing the cause and full circumstances of fire.
- The Prime Minister has pledged financial support for victims' families.
- MCD is coordinating community support efforts for everyone affected .
Delhi's Mayor,Pravesh Wahi, has also given his condolences and promised that government is taking all necessary steps . He also said negligence will not be tolerated. To show they are being proactive, the MCD has apparently started inspections to prevent similar incidents happening again.
It's a cycle we see too often . A tragedy happens, then come promises, inspections, and lot of talk about accountability .
But you have to wonder if this time will be different . They are saying all the right things, but the real test is what happens in six months,or a year, when the cameras have moved on… Will safety rules still be enforced then…
