Just read this story from Kolkata and honestly,it's one of those things that makes you lose trust in online world. A man arrested for allegedly cheating multiple women on matrimonial websites.
The Kolkata Police have arrested this guy,Matiur Rahman . He apparently also used fake name Manik Roy to trick women .
And one specific case that brought him down was from woman in Naihati . He promised to marry her, built up some trust and then slowly manipulated her into giving him ₹85,000 and even jewelry. He made up some fake stories about needing money for family issues.
But his whole fake story was something else only . Reports say he pretended to be some big shot professional, earning ₹1.5 crore every year. This is how he attracted so many victims ah.
And this is where things get really bad . Police investigation has found that this wasn't one-off case . He has reportedly married up to 15 women using these same deceitful tricks. Fifteen. That's not a small number.
The victim from Naihati started getting suspicious when he kept asking for money again and again . She did her own little investigation and found out his real identity and that he had conned other women too. Good on her for being alert.
Few key things from this whole mess:
- Accused Matiur Rahman used fake name Manik Roy and claimed to earn ₹1.5 crore annually.
- One victim from Naihati was cheated of ₹85,000 and jewelry after marriage promise.
- Police suspect he has married and duped as many as 15 women this way .
So after she found out the truth, she went straight to the police and filed formal complaint . Police then arrested Rahman on Tuesday night. Now they are trying to find other victims.
And tbh, this is becoming such common problem on these matrimonial sites . People are just looking for a life partner, and these scammers take advantage of that vulnerability. It's really sad.
Police are now asking more people to come forward if they have had similar experiences . But you have to wonder how many women are out there who are too embarrassed or scared to report it…
