So some pretty big news coming out for Bihar's infrastructure finally . The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given green signal for upgrading Khagaria-Purnea section of NH-31 and NH-231 .
And this is not small thing ah . It's four-lane highway project with a total cost of ₹3,936.05 crore . That's a huge investment for the state.
The whole project covers around 143.529 kilometers, and it's meant to fix the connectivity and business activity in some really key districts of Bihar. The government is saying this will improve travel efficiency and road safety.
It's being developed under Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) toll model, which is interesting. They are also building a new 6.729-km Greenfield bypass around Purnea city to ease up the traffic there .
And tbh, that Purnea bypass is much needed. Anyone who travels on that route knows congestion problem inside the city.
The government is promising that this upgrade will cut down travel times to nearly two hours which is a massive improvement for everyone.
Few things standing out clearly in this project:
- It is expected to stimulate local economies and businesses in a big way.
- They estimate it will create 32.59 lakh person-days of employment during construction only .
- It will connect major transport routes and logistics hubs across Bihar.
But it's not just about the road itself . This new highway will connect to five PM Gati Shakti economic nodes, including a textile cluster, two mega food parks, and even two fishing seafood parks. They are trying to create a whole economic corridor.
This also connects to four major railway stations,an airport, and multiple other national and state highways . idea is to make movement of goods and passengers much faster across whole region.
The plan on paper looks really solid . It connects all right dots for economic growth. But the real test is always the execution and how quickly it gets completed without delays…
