So,some news is coming out about judiciary appointments, and it looks like Supreme Court Collegium is taking some big steps . The decision was made public on June 3,2026.
And it’s about making two additional judges into permanent ones for Punjab and Haryana High Court . recommendation came from Collegium which is headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant .
The two judges are Justices Harmeet Singh Grewal and Deepinder Singh Nalwa . This must be a big moment for them, moving from additional to permanent position.
Apparently this decision came after Collegium's meeting on June 2 . And it's not random choice ah. Their performance as additional judges was looked at,like how many cases they disposed of and kind of judgments they delivered.
And tbh,it’s good to see this kind of detailed review happening. It adds some transparency to whole process.
Few things standing out here:
- Judges' appointments need detailed performance stats to check quality .
- These recommendations are part of bigger effort to strengthen judiciary in India.
- The Collegium also recommended appointments for Karnataka,Madhya Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh High Courts.
This whole process is actually governed by Article 217 of the Constitution . It says President appoints High Court judges but based on what the Supreme Court Collegium recommends. So it is proper system .
But these moves are important for making the judiciary stronger and more efficient . With so many cases pending, every permanent judge counts .
The hope is that Justices Grewal and Nalwa will really help with the workload at Punjab and Haryana High Court and contribute positively to the justice system there .
Now that this is done for Punjab and Haryana, you have to wonder what's next... The Collegium is also looking at other High Courts,so more changes might be coming soon only…
