Mumbai had pretty disturbing day on June 21, 2026 ,with BEST buses getting targeted by stone pelting while staff strike was already going on . And honestly,for common people trying to travel,this kind of violence is not small thing ah.
Reports said incidents were seen in multiple areas like Malad,Dahisar,Dadar,and Dharavi . BEST buses were still running despite strike by their staff,and that seems to have become flashpoint for anger on streets.
Police moved quickly after unrest and arrested 23 individuals in connection with these violent acts . They also registered 11 cognizable offences related to stone pelting incidents,which shows situation was not just one random bus being attacked.
One FIR by Bangur Nagar police mentioned that four to five individuals,masked and carrying stones,attacked a bus near Mindspace in Malad West around 7:55 AM . That detail itself feels scary because morning commute time means regular passengers could have been inside or nearby .
And another incident involved a stone being hurled at bus running on Ghatkopar-Worli route . Dharavi police also booked five suspects for allegedly creating disturbance inside a bus and deflating its tires . This is where protest starts looking less like labour dispute and more like public safety issue.
Few things standing out clearly here:

But at same time,there is bigger question sitting behind all this . Why did strike reach point where buses operating during it became targets? Workers clearly have some concerns,but violence against public transport cannot be answer.
For Mumbai residents,BEST buses are daily lifeline only . When strike happens,commute gets hit. When violence joins it,ordinary people are stuck between management,workers,police and fear of whether next bus is even safe.
Authorities are now increasing security around public transport to stop more incidents . That is needed rn,but it still does not solve reason behind anger.
And this is uncomfortable part… if dialogue does not happen properly,will Mumbai keep seeing same cycle of strike,anger,police action and commuters suffering in middle?
