Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) working with Make-A-Wish Foundation on June 22,2026,to fulfil dreams of children suffering from tuberculosis (TB) is not just event-type news,it is about giving children little breathing space from illness.
And event was held at Late Narendra Ballal Auditorium, where young TB patients were called and given gifts based on their interests and needs . These were children aged between 3 and 16 years, which makes whole thing even more sensitive because at that age, kids should be thinking about games, school, friends… not hospital visits and medicines.
What stood out here is that initiative was not only about treatment . TB already puts heavy pressure on families, financially and emotionally, and children end up carrying stress they may not even fully understand . So this kind of emotional support is not small thing ah.
Few things from event were clearly touching:
- Children received bicycles, laptops, mobile phones, and cricket kits for recreation and education.
- Mayor Sharmila Pimplolkar praised effort and said,"While medicine heals body, such compassionate gestures restore spirit."
- Deputy Mayor Krishna Patil and Health Officer Dr. Varsha Sasane were also part of event.
And honestly, that quote from Mayor Sharmila Pimplolkar makes sense . Medicine may treat infection, but fear, boredom, loneliness and helplessness also sit inside child during long illness . Gifts cannot erase disease, but they can remind child that life is still bigger than hospital routine.
Civic officials and Make-A-Wish Foundation members reportedly interacted with young patients during program . That personal attention matters because many times children dealing with long medical issues start feeling invisible in larger system . Everyone talks about reports, tests, medicine schedules, but child’s own wish gets pushed aside.
But this collaboration between TMC and Make-A-Wish Foundation also shows how local bodies can do more than just run health programs on paper . They can create moments where families feel seen, and where children get some normal childhood feeling back, even if for few hours only .
At same time, one event cannot solve larger struggle of TB-affected families . There is still treatment burden, stigma, school disruption, and emotional pressure at home . So while this was genuinely heartwarming,it also quietly reminds us how much more support such children may still need…
