On June 22,2026,Thane Civil Hospital performed 34 major pediatric surgeries in single day,and that is not small thing ah.
This whole camp was done under Central Government’s flagship program,Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) . Main focus was children dealing with complex congenital conditions and severe physical ailments, especially from families who normally cannot even think about private hospital bills.
Surgeries included cases like cleft lip, hernia, hydrocele, and lymphatic tumors . These are not minor problems for families, especially when private treatment costs become completely out of reach .
And many of children came from economically marginalized families living in industrial and tribal areas of Thane,Palghar, and Raigad districts . For them, free surgery is not just medical help,it changes whole family stress overnight only .
Few things standing out clearly in this camp:
- 34 major pediatric surgeries were done in single day at Thane Civil Hospital .
- Children were treated for cleft lip, hernia, hydrocele, and lymphatic tumors free of charge.
- Hospital arranged accommodation, meals, and post-operative care for patients and families.
Under District Civil Surgeon Dr . Kailas Pawar, the camp was planned in way that families did not get buried under travel, food and stay problems while already worrying about their children . This part matters because for poor families, hospital visit itself becomes expense.
Medical team was led by Dr. Sanjay Oak,a veteran pediatric surgeon, and advanced surgical technology was used for these operations . And honestly, public hospital doing this kind of specialized work properly gives some hope, especially when many people believe such care is possible only in private setups .
Dr. Pawar also said,"Our definitive policy mandate is to ensure that zero financial barriers impede critical medical intervention for pediatric demographics." Big words maybe, but meaning is simple enough,no child should miss treatment just because family has no money .
This single-day effort is now being seen as benchmark for public health services in Mumbai Metropolitan Region . But tbh, real question is whether this kind of access can become regular thing and not something families hear about once in while…
