So one big political storm is brewing in Kerala Assembly right now . And it's all over employee transfers after the recent government change. This kind of thing happens,but the scale of it this time seems very big .
Pinarayi Vijayan,who is now Opposition leader,is making some very serious accusations . He is basically saying that power brokers and agents are running the show,shuffling government employees around for political reasons.
And the ruling government is obviously denying everything,saying all transfers are happening as per administrative rules only.
But then CPI(M) legislator V. Joy dropped some numbers that are hard to ignore . He claimed the government issued massive 207 transfer orders across 33 different departments . This has apparently affected more than 2,000 employees . That is not small number ah . He said these transfers are completely arbitrary.
And honestly,this is where things get uncomfortable .
The Opposition tried to get an adjournment motion to discuss these "revenge transfers" but Speaker disallowed it . So what happened next? They staged a walkout in protest. Classic political drama.
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- Minister Sunny Joseph defended transfers as routine,especially after many people retire in May.
- Vijayan pointed out this is not new,recalling similar situation back in 2016.
- The sheer number of alleged transfers,over 2,000 employees,is the main point of conflict.
The government's side,through Minister Sunny Joseph,is trying to calm things down . He assured that any genuine complaints from employees would be looked at sympathetically and that there's no plan to demoralize anyone .
But Vijayan is not convinced . He questioned who is even giving these orders,suggesting senior officials are acting without proper direction . He even alleged that vulnerable people are being targeted—those close to retirement,women,and people with health problems—and sent to faraway places. That is just cruel if true .
He also brought up how his Left government in 2016 had started an online system for transfers to make things transparent . And he called the removal of contract workers from Kudumbashree "inhumane".
So now the Opposition is demanding that all these "illegal transfers" be cancelled immediately . walkout just shows how deep the disagreement is.
Every time a new government comes in,this same fight seems to start . And you have to wonder about the actual employees who are just caught in the middle of this political crossfire…
