Saw some really positive news coming from Srinagar for World Bicycle Day . Chief Minister Omar Abdullah flagged off a cyclothon, and the whole thing just looks so vibrant and full of energy.
The event kicked off at Royal Springs Golf Course, which is a nice touch . It's all about pushing for fitness and sports culture among the youth in the region, which is always a good initiative.
And this was organized by Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council as part of their bigger 'My Youth My Pride' initiative . So it's not just one-off thing, but part of a larger plan .
During event,Abdullah also unveiled the mascot and jersey for the upcoming Jammu Cyclothon . They are apparently trying to attract cyclists from all over the country,to make Jammu and Kashmir a hub for this kind of stuff .
And tbh, this is the kind of news you want to see.
Few things that really stood out here:
- The main push is to get youth into healthy lifestyles.
- There are bigger plans for national-level Kashmir Cyclothon.
- It highlights cycling for both public health and its low environmental impact.
Omar Abdullah also interacted with participants and talked about how cycling is good for physical and mental health . He directly linked it to fighting bigger social problems.
He actually said,"Say No to Drugs,No to Screen Addiction and Yes to Fitness & Sport." That's a very direct and needed message for young people everywhere rn.
The cyclothon itself was around 20 kilometres long . It started from the golf course and went towards Duck Park on Foreshore Road, and it seems like people from all age groups joined in.
It's great to see this kind of community engagement . But you always wonder if the momentum from one day can actually turn into a real, lasting habit for people…
