Saw some new hiring report from foundit and honestly,it's showing one very interesting trend in India's job market.
The main headline is that diversity hiring went up by 21% year-on-year for May 2026 . And this is happening even when overall white-collar hiring has actually dropped by 4% . So companies are clearly focusing on something specific .
And when you look at the details,it gets even clearer . Women apparently made up 56% of all these diversity-focused hires which is quite big number . Also, hiring of persons with disabilities (PwD) has reached 12% ,which is major jump compared to last two years .
Plus,it seems initiatives for hiring LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse talent are also growing, making up almost one-third of all diversity hires now. This is not small thing ah.
And tbh, this shows big change in how companies are thinking.
The report also breaks down which sectors are leading this push .
- IT sector leads diversity hiring — accounting for 25% of total diversity hires.
- Bengaluru shines as a hiring hub — rising from 15% to 19% in diversity hiring share.
- Startups drive inclusion — contributing 21% of diversity hiring, especially in tech sectors.
According to Tarun Sinha, the CEO of foundit, companies are not just doing this for compliance anymore . They are seeing it as a strategic advantage for business. This makes sense, especially with the investments in accessibility and better workplace designs for PwD employees .
It's also not just about entry-level jobs . The data shows mid-level roles are 44% of these diversity positions, and senior management is around 18% .
But at same time, that 4% overall dip in hiring is still there . So while this focus on inclusion is really good, you have to wonder how it all balances out in the bigger picture… what it means for everyone in job market rn.
