This Assam road accident issue is honestly very painful because again young lives are being lost on motorcycles,and families are left carrying everything after that . BJP MLA Bhupen Borah has now pushed state government and police to act harder against helmetless riders .
And this is coming after series of tragic incidents in his constituency of Bihpuria,where three youths from Tikira region reportedly died . That kind of loss in one area is not small thing ah,especially when people keep seeing same pattern again and again.
Borah said community is mourning these deaths and he raised concern over rising fatalities plus people not following basic safety rules . Helmet rule is not some new thing,but still many riders ignore it like nothing will happen.
During recent press conference,he also spoke about emotional toll on families,especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds . And that part hits differently because accident does not end with death only,family also faces rituals,costs and social pressure after that.
He pointed out that customs and rituals after accidental deaths within Mising community can become expensive,which makes grief even heavier for bereaved families . Local BJP workers are helping affected families,but Borah is saying prevention has to be stronger now.
Few things he is asking for:
- Seizing motorcycles of helmetless riders for up to one month.
- Speed restrictions for young riders aged 19-25 .
- Increased penalties and stricter enforcement against helmetless riding.
And honestly,his point is simple,fines are not scaring people enough . He wants police stations to get power to seize motorcycles from offenders because young riders are still ignoring awareness campaigns and legal mandates.
He also questioned how youths keep refusing basic safety despite so many warnings . Tbh,this is something every state is struggling with now,especially with two-wheelers and overspeeding among young riders.
Borah now plans to engage with local police administration to discuss stronger enforcement against traffic violations . His remarks are also part of wider road safety discussion in Assam,where two-wheeler deaths are becoming serious concern.
But at same time,big question is whether strict action like seizure will actually change behaviour,or people will follow rules for few days and then go back to same risky riding…
