Israel and Hezbollah have now committed to ceasefire after renewed violence, but it already feels very shaky.
What makes it more complicated is timing . There was one meeting set for June 20 in Switzerland between United States and Iran side, mainly to discuss peace plan . But that meeting got cancelled abruptly after hostilities increased.
And this was not some minor exchange also . Reports mention deaths of four Israeli soldiers and then retaliatory airstrikes which caused numerous casualties . Once that kind of bloodshed happens, any diplomatic talk starts looking very difficult from outside .
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to fragile ceasefire after intense violence.
- US-Iran talks in Switzerland set for June 20 were called off amidst conflict .
- Trump unveiled new temporary Air Force One,VC-25B,at Joint Base Andrews.
For President Donald Trump, this whole Middle East issue is becoming political problem at home also . Critics, including some Republican lawmakers, are questioning whether he has given too much to Iran while trying to get peace deal . And many Americans opposing it ahead of upcoming midterm elections makes pressure even more direct.
Trump,of course, defended his approach on social media . His exact line was,"The War has diminished Iran! We didn’t meet out of desperation,Iran did . They are FINISHED!" That statement itself tells how aggressive messaging is still going on,even when ceasefire word is being used .
But at same time, another controversy came from Air Force One side . Trump showed new temporary Air Force One,designated VC-25B,at Joint Base Andrews . Aircraft is converted Qatari 747,and backlash started because its value reportedly exceeds legal limit for unsolicited gifts.
And tbh, this is where optics become messy . When foreign government-linked gift issue comes during already tense foreign policy moment, people will obviously connect dots and ask uncomfortable questions ah .
Former President Barack Obama also weighed in, saying US is now "worse off" than before conflict with Iran began . He pointed toward financial and human costs of war,and that argument will probably hit harder as domestic politics gets sharper.
So now one side has fragile ceasefire in Lebanon, one cancelled US-Iran meeting in Switzerland, and one Air Force One controversy sitting on top of everything . Peace talks, war costs, election pressure, foreign gifts… all moving together rn,and nobody really knows which fire becomes bigger next…
