This Pakistan-Iran development is not small thing ah. Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi suddenly landing in Iran on June 20,2026,that too after peace agreement between U.S. and Iran, has obviously created lot of attention.
And what makes it more interesting is that his arrival in Mashhad was unannounced . No big public announcement from Islamabad,no loud build-up,but still visit has clear diplomatic weight behind it.
As reported by Geo News,Mohsin Naqvi is now expected to go to Tehran for meetings with high-ranking Iranian officials . Timing is also very sensitive because U.S. and Iran signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) earlier this week.
That MoU reportedly helped in reopening strategic Strait of Hormuz and also created 60-day negotiation window for more peace talks . So yes, this is not some routine courtesy visit only.
Few things standing out in this visit:
- Mohsin Naqvi is being seen as mediator in U.S.-Iran negotiations.
- Pakistan is expected to monitor ongoing discussions between both sides.
- His earlier visits to Iran were also aimed at reducing diplomatic gaps before peace agreement .
But one point is still little unclear. Technical-level talks were earlier scheduled to start on June 19,but they got postponed . Now it is believed Naqvi may discuss how and when those talks move forward.
And these talks are not about small issues. They are expected to include Iran's nuclear program, which has always been one of most sensitive topics between U.S. and Iran . Pakistan being named as guarantor in MoU also shows how seriously its role is being taken rn .
There is also Mohsin Naqvi's equation with Field Marshal Asim Munir,Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Staff . That connection gives him extra weight in these discussions, because defence and diplomacy are clearly overlapping here.
Honestly, this visit feels like Pakistan is trying to place itself right in middle of West Asia peace process. Not just watching from side, but actively trying to manage channels between U.S.,Iran and regional players.
Still, question is whether these meetings in Tehran will actually push talks forward or just keep things temporarily calm…
