This Tamil Nadu honour killings issue is not small thing ah,and now government forming Prevention of Honour Killings Commission feels like one serious move in right direction . But at same time, real test will be what actually comes out of it.
Tamil Nadu government constituted this commission in November 2025 . It is being led by Justice K.N. Basha,a retired High Court judge, and members include V . Palanikumar,a retired IAS officer, and S. Ramanathan,a retired IPS officer.
Main aim is to prepare actionable recommendations to prevent honour killings in state . And honestly, that itself shows how deeply rooted this problem still is in society, even now.
Commission has now invited suggestions and insights from public side also . Legal experts, social activists,non-governmental organisations, political parties, and academicians have all been encouraged to share their views before report is prepared and submitted to Tamil Nadu government .
Few things clearly standing out here:
- Public can send suggestions through email or submit them in person.
- Focus is on preventing honour killings in Tamil Nadu.
- Commission's headquarters is at CMDA Tower II,Egmore,Chennai.
And this public participation part matters because honour killing is not just law-and-order issue only . It is linked with caste pressure, family control, social stigma and fear of “what people will say” kind of mindset.
People who want to give suggestions in person can do that too,and those inputs will be considered during report preparation . That is good, because many activists and families who have seen such cases closely may have very real points which officials sitting in rooms may miss.
But tbh, formation of commission is one thing, and changing ground reality is another . Recommendations can talk about policy changes, community awareness initiatives and safer environment, but implementation is where everything usually gets tested badly.
Tamil Nadu government looks clear about addressing this sensitive issue, but question is whether society is ready to listen when love, choice and caste collide inside homes…
