So finally,it seems Supreme Court is taking Aravalli Hills issue seriously . They have now formed one High-Powered Committee (HPC) to basically reassess what even counts as Aravalli region. This is big news ah .
For long time,these hills have been facing so much pressure from mining and all sorts of environmental damage . It felt like nobody was listening to the concerns.
The committee is made of five experts and will be headed by the Director General of Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) . On June 3,the three-judge bench,which was led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant,made it clear that they want a proper scientific analysis to define the Aravalli range.
And honestly,this is what was needed. Not just random decisions but something based on actual science and expert opinion .
This whole thing came from a suo motu case after the earlier definitions of Aravalli Hills were getting criticised . People were saying those definitions were leaving out ecologically connected areas from protection,which defeats whole purpose. Supreme Court had even put a stay on those older definitions.
So this new committee is a very important step . They will look at everything,environmental,geological and ecological factors. And they have to submit their full report by August 31, 2026 .

But the main thing is to finally have one clear,scientific definition that can't be twisted for commercial interests . whole fight is always between development and environment conservation .
The next hearings are scheduled for September 7 . So we will have to wait and see what happens. But this expert committee's report will be the main thing that decides the future of this entire ecological region.
It’s a long road ahead… and one hopes this committee's work actually leads to real protection on the ground and not just another report that gathers dust…
