So UK's Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper is coming to New Delhi for a two-day visit . And this looks like a pretty important trip, not just some routine check-in ah.
She is scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi . When PM is involved, you know the discussions are going to be serious.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also gave a media briefing on this . He highlighted that talks will cover a whole range of topics like security cooperation, economic ties, and of course, the big Free Trade Agreement or FTA .
And honestly, this is where things get interesting. Jaiswal made it a point to say that partnership with UK is about much more than just the FTA . It involves many areas of collaboration.
So main focus seems to be on a few things:
- Discussions will be about boosting trade ties and investment opportunities.
- Both countries will talk about shared security challenges and defence cooperation .
- This visit is building on groundwork from other recent high-level meetings.
This whole thing is happening after that India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) was signed back in July 2025 . And we know our Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal had good discussions with UK officials before about business priorities .
But it's not just about trade only . Earlier this year, our National Security Advisor Ajit Doval hosted his UK counterpart,Jonathan Powell . They specifically spoke about defence and security collaboration. So it's a full-spectrum partnership rn .
It really feels like both countries are trying to lock in this relationship properly, from all angles.
Everyone is now just waiting to see what comes out of these meetings with Yvette Cooper . Lot of anticipation in the air.
Will they finally make some big announcement on the FTA,or will it be more about strengthening the other stuff…
