Saw this news about Omar Abdullah visiting Kheer Bhawani temple and it’s actually quite interesting to see how many things are happening at once in Ganderbal district. It’s not just about one festival.
So he went there on June 18,2026, to check preparations for annual mela on June 22 . This is huge event for Kashmiri Pandit community, where hundreds of devotees come to worship Goddess Ragnya Devi, or Mata Kheer Bhawani.
And he wasn't just doing formal visit only . He was apparently talking directly to temple officials and priests, making sure everything is set up properly. He even said,"It is a sacred day. People come here from various parts of country and world to pay obeisance and get blessings of the mata." Saying he's there as CM and also local MLA makes it sound more personal.
Few key takeaways from his visit:
- Annual Kheer Bhawani Mela on June 22 — Expected to attract hundreds of pilgrims from across globe.
- Amarnath Yatra preparations — Scheduled to begin on July 3, overseen by Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.
- Appeal for peace — Abdullah urged pilgrims to pray for harmony in Jammu and Kashmir.
But the discussion didn't stop at just Kheer Bhawani. It also moved to the big Amarnath yatra which is starting soon.
He assured everyone that the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board is managing that pilgrimage, but the government is giving full backing. His words were,"Whatever support we have to give from government side,we are doing that" . It seems like a lot of coordination is needed for these back-to-back events.
And then he also brought up the irrigation problems for local farmers . This is a big issue ah,especially with water scarcity. He promised that the government is working on it,saying,"Whatever can be done through canals, etc.,is being done so that there is no lack of irrigation water".
On top of all this,he addressed the question about transit accommodations for Kashmiri Pandits . He clarified these projects are for PM package employees and were actually started during Manmohan Singh's time.
So it’s not just one thing . It’s about religious festivals, farmer issues, and community housing all being discussed during one single visit .
It’s always a complex situation trying to balance everything... praying for peace while also trying to solve real on-ground problems like water for farms...
