Cleanliness campaigns are not new for Visakhapatnam, but this one in Ganesh Nagar,Vadlapudi does feel like administration is trying to push public also into action, not just municipal staff . And honestly, that part matters because dirty lanes and neglected corners are not government problem only.
On June 20, 2026 ,district administration launched 'Swachch Andhra – Swarna Andhra' campaign under leadership of Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao . He attended as chief guest and took part in cleanliness drive, echoing State government's call that community involvement is needed for keeping environment clean.
Rao said cleanliness should be seen as collective responsibility among citizens . Simple point, but important ah,because many times people want clean roads but still dump waste in same public spots.
The campaign is also linked with vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu ,with focus on better living conditions for future generations . District Collector and GVMC Special Officer M. Abhishek Kishore also supported Rao's remarks and said campaign is part of bigger effort to transform public spaces and involve local communities .
Few things standing out in this drive:
- Community-driven initiatives are encouraging residents to partner with GVMC to clean and green their neighborhoods.
- Operation Clean Sweep is focusing on turning neglected areas into vibrant green spots.
- Additional sanitation workforce includes around 600 extra sanitation workers to improve city cleanliness.
And this is where campaign becomes more practical, not just photo-op type event . If around 600 extra sanitation workers are actually deployed properly, then visible change can happen in city cleanliness,at least in areas where garbage points have become normal sight.
Awareness programs are also being conducted throughout month to promote cleanliness and public participation . Kishore said community organizations and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) are actively involved, which is good because RWAs usually know exact problem spots better than anyone sitting in office.
During event, participants took Swachh Pledge and unveiled awareness poster titled 'Transforming GVPs into Green Spots.' That line itself sounds ambitious, but if neglected Garbage Vulnerable Points actually become green spots, people may start believing such campaigns more .
But real issue is consistency . One day drive, pledge, poster and speeches can create attention, but keeping same place clean after two weeks is actual challenge.
And tbh,Visakhapatnam needs this kind of citizen-government cooperation badly, but question is whether residents will stay involved after campaign noise becomes less…
