Just saw some big news coming out about India and South Africa working together on future tech . And it's not just talk,it seems like a serious plan for AI,digital infrastructure and even advanced manufacturing.
This all happened on June 3,2026 during bilateral talks in New Delhi . Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh met with South Africa's Deputy Minister Dr. Nomalungelo Gina and her team .
And tbh,the main point here is that they want to change the whole game . The Ministry of Science & Technology said they are moving beyond old-style research to focus on real innovation that actually helps people and economy.
Dr. Singh himself said it best,“The next phase of India-South Africa engagement must be shaped by emerging technologies, innovation ecosystems, startup partnerships and industry-linked research.”
And honestly, this is kind of forward thinking we need . Not just research for papers, but for actual solutions.
Few key areas they are focusing on now:
- Big push on artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure capabilities.
- More partnership in biotechnology and health technologies, which is very needed after recent global issues.
- South Africa is very interested in India's help with hydrogen technologies and skill development .
But it's bigger than just two countries . As major players in Global South,India and South Africa are using platforms like BRICS,G20 and IORA to push for tech that helps developing countries. This is important ah.
They also reviewed some ongoing science work, like the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) astronomy project . Dr. Singh called it one of the most ambitious scientific collaborations in the world.
So yes,the plan is to build strong partnerships and become trusted allies in this global tech race .
But you know, these announcements always sound so good . The real test will be seeing these ideas turn into actual projects on ground level, not just stay in files…
