So Delhi LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu finally held a big meeting with MCD officials . And good thing too, because monsoon is just around the corner and everyone knows what happens in Delhi during rains.
This whole thing seems to be happening after those recent building collapses in Delhi, which were very scary . So now the focus is on structural safety and just making the city better run. It's about time someone took it seriously .
During the meeting, they talked about all usual stuff ah . Desilting of stormwater drains to stop crazy waterlogging, repairing roads and pavements to reduce dust pollution, and just improving sanitation standards in general.
And honestly, this desilting thing is said every single year . Hope this time it's done properly.
Another big point was to speed up the Pradhan Mantri Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY) . This is a huge issue in Delhi,so any progress is welcome for people living in those colonies .
Few things they focused on:
- Desilting stormwater drains — very necessary measure to prevent flooding during monsoon.
- Strengthening structural safety — urgent need to enforce building bylaws to prevent illegal constructions.
- Enhancing public parks — using corporate social responsibility initiatives to make public spaces better .
After the meeting,Sandhu even posted on X about it . He said he's committed to a proper action plan and wants to enforce building bylaws strictly to stop all the illegal construction happening everywhere.
But everyone in Delhi knows the history . Every year there are promises, and every year we see roads turned into rivers . pressure on MCD is very high to actually deliver this time only.
All this focus on public welfare and inclusive development, guided by vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sounds good on paper .
But the real question is,will all these meetings lead to actual change on the ground before first heavy rain hits? Or is it just another review meeting… we will have to wait and see.
