This Bengaluru case is honestly very disturbing because accused is not some random street criminal,but CID inspector himself . And when person from law enforcement is accused in ₹20 lakh robbery,public trust takes direct hit ah.
Incident happened in Bengaluru's Madiwala area,where CID inspector Mahesh Kanakagiri was apprehended along with two alleged accomplices,Kupendra Reddy and Vasanth Kumar . Police say they targeted group of individuals from Kerala who were believed to be carrying large amount of cash .
As per police,the accused allegedly entered victims' hotel room by posing as local police officers . Just imagine that fear for victims also,no? People who are supposed to protect you allegedly walk in using police identity and then situation turns into robbery .
They reportedly assaulted victims and demanded cash,which victims said was meant for trading purposes . After this,victims filed complaint at local police station,and Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammad Sujeetha formed special team to look into matter.
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- CID inspector Mahesh Kanakagiri allegedly conspired with Kupendra Reddy and Vasanth Kumar in ₹20 lakh robbery.
- Accused reportedly posed as local police officers and assaulted victims inside hotel room.
- Police recovered entire stolen amount and vehicle used in crime,reportedly government car.
And tbh,the government car part makes whole thing even more uncomfortable . If official vehicle was used in crime,then this is not small thing only,it points toward misuse of position in very direct way.
Police also said inspector allegedly got tip-off about victims carrying cash,and that led to robbery plan . Two accomplices were arrested first,while inspector initially fled but was later caught . That fleeing part itself says lot about how serious matter became.
Mahesh Kanakagiri's earlier role as Station House Officer (SHO) in Southeast Division is now also under scrutiny,especially since he had been transferred to Police Commissioner's Office due to earlier allegations . So naturally,people will ask whether warning signs were already there before this incident .
At same time,police are also checking source of money victims were carrying . Victims claimed it was for trading,as advised by friend who assured them of high returns . So now case is not just about robbery,but also about where this cash came from and who all knew about it.
And this is where bigger question remains hanging… if someone inside system can allegedly plan robbery using police image,then how many such things never even come out?
