This Chennai drug case honestly feels like one of those stories where you read numbers first, and then realise how many people are allegedly connected in same chain . Greater Chennai Police have apprehended 11 individuals in two separate operations in Ayanavaram and Vanagaram, and situation looks quite serious .
First operation happened near Sai Baba Temple at Thikkakulam, where police reportedly acted on tip-off and kept watch in area on June 19 . During that surveillance, police team intercepted seven individuals.
From that spot, police recovered 2.5 grams of methamphetamine and 15 grams of ganja, along with two motorcycles and a mobile phone . Among arrested suspects were Gopinath,36,and Yugesh,24.
And this is where case expanded more . After interrogation, police got further intelligence and arrested two more suspects,Appu alias Aruppu Appu,36,and Akash,22. With that, total seizure became 4.9 grams of methamphetamine and 15 grams of ganja, plus two mobile phones and three motorcycles .
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Greater Chennai Police apprehended 11 individuals in two operations in Ayanavaram and Vanagaram.
- Police recovered methamphetamine,ganja,ganja oil,two painkiller tablets,vehicles,mobile phones,a small weighing scale and ₹ 2,000 in cash.
- Investigation is now looking further into narcotics supply chain linked to arrested individuals.
At same time,Vanagaram police were also working on another tip about illegal transportation of narcotics . They carried out search operation on service road near Adaiyalampattu flyover on same day,and officers stopped an autorickshaw there .
Inside that autorickshaw, police allegedly found ganja oil and additional ganja with occupant . Suriya,25,and Sanjay,20,were arrested in this case.
Seizure from Vanagaram side included 3 grams of ganja oil,32 grams of ganja, two painkiller tablets,a small weighing scale,₹ 2,000 in cash, and autorickshaw used for illegal activities . Not small thing ah,especially when weighing scale and cash are also found together.
And tbh, what feels worrying is how these cases are not happening in some hidden faraway place only . Temple area, service road, flyover side, autorickshaw movement… this is normal public space where daily people pass.
Police have said community cooperation in reporting suspicious activities matters in these efforts against narcotics trafficking . But bigger question is how deep this supply chain is in city, and how many such small networks are still moving quietly…
