This is one of those daily commuter issues which may look small from outside,but for people travelling every single day,it becomes full headache . On June 21, 2026,daily rail commuters from Erode to Tiruppur and Coimbatore gathered at Perundurai and gave petition to Tiruppur MP K. Subbarayan.
And their main frustration is around MEMU services not running on time . Especially Train No. 66607 (Palakkad Town MEMU) and Train No. 66601 (Erode–Coimbatore MEMU),which many people depend on for office,college and regular travel.
Passengers are saying these trains are getting delayed again and again,not by 5 or 10 minutes,but often 40 minutes to an hour late . That is not small thing ah when someone has attendance,shift timing or daily wage work waiting on other side .
What commuters are saying is that MEMU trains are being stopped so express trains can pass first . Because of that,these trains are reportedly held without signal clearance and even reach platform late.
And honestly,this is where anger feels very understandable . If same thing happens once,people adjust. But if this becomes routine,then whole daily schedule goes for toss.
Few things standing out from their petition:
- Train No. 66607 (Palakkad Town MEMU) and Train No. 66601 (Erode–Coimbatore MEMU) are reportedly delayed often by 40 minutes to an hour late .
- Commuters urged that Palakkad Town MEMU should operate on Thursdays,as it is currently not in service.
- Despite repeated representations to Salem Railway Division,commuters say there has been little improvement in service.
K. Subbarayan assured passengers that he would take their concerns to railway authorities . Commuters also thanked him for earlier help after Railway Protection Force sought to register cases against protesters who staged rail roko on May 22 .
That part also says lot about mood on ground . People are not protesting for fun only,they are clearly pushed by repeated delays and lack of response . And when legal action comes on top of daily travel stress,it becomes even more tense .
Now question is whether railway authorities will actually fix timing issue or again commuters will keep standing at platforms,watching express trains pass while their MEMU waits somewhere without clarity…
