So things are moving very fast in West Bengal politics now . Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is finally going to announce who gets what portfolio on June 3,and honestly,everyone is waiting for this.
This is all happening after that big cabinet expansion where 35 new ministers were brought in . meeting is set for the state secretariat,Nabanna,and this is where all the big responsibilities will be handed out.
And the new cabinet is huge ah . The total strength has gone up to 41 members now. The oath ceremony for 35 BJP members was held on June 1 only at Lok Bhavan in Kolkata. It was a very colorful function .
Out of these,13 were made cabinet ministers,three are ministers of state with independent charge,and 19 are ministers of state . This is on top of the six ministers,including Adhikari,who were already sworn in back on May 9.
And tbh,this is where the real work starts.
Adhikari has been very clear that his main priority is to fix the state's financial situation and get some big investments . West Bengal has significant debt,and he seems focused on that first.
Few things everyone is watching closely:
- Cabinet strength is now 41,which allows for more representation from different areas .
- Main focus is on financial revitalization and dealing with state's massive debt.
- Speculation is high on who gets key portfolios like finance and industry.
There's also some insider talk that Adhikari might keep finance portfolio for himself for a while . Apparently he wants to wait until some renowned economist from Delhi can be brought into cabinet after a successful election in Nandigram .
This whole thing is a big political move . Remember,in the recent assembly elections,Adhikari won from both Nandigram and Bhabanipur . He defeated former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur by more than 15,000 votes,which was a huge deal.
He then decided to stay as MLA from Bhabanipur,so now there will have to be a by-election for Nandigram . It feels like a very strategic play to strengthen BJP's position everywhere .
Now with such a big team,the pressure to actually deliver on all these promises is going to be immense . It's one thing to form a government,but running it and fixing deep problems is another challenge altogether…
