This is Washington, D.C.,between Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument, and still water has turned vivid green after recent renovation costing approximately ₹13 million .
President Donald Trump recently inspected Reflecting Pool and said repairs would commence immediately . He was returning from weekend at Camp David and reportedly took helicopter tour over site before making remarks.
And what makes this more frustrating is that this pool has already had so many issues for years . Algae growth, maintenance problems, structural trouble… same story keeps coming back again and again.
Trump also reacted strongly to reports of vandalism on newly painted surface and called people responsible “SICK,DERANGED PEOPLE!” . That anger is understandable because damaging public landmark is not small thing ah,especially when officials are already struggling to keep place presentable .
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Five arrests made for vandalism — authorities have detained five individuals linked to recent damage incidents .
- Pool's history of issues — built in the 1920s,it has long faced structural and maintenance challenges .
- Algae cleanup efforts ongoing — officials are using chemicals to combat the persistent algae blooms.
And timing is also sensitive because all this is happening ahead of 250th anniversary of nation’s independence on July 4 . For such big symbolic place to be dealing with green water and vandalism at same time, public concern is obvious only .
U.S. Attorney for D.C. ,Jeanine Pirro , has also said legal action will be pursued against anyone found responsible for vandalism . Many citizens are now questioning whether recent renovation actually solved core problems or just gave temporary cosmetic fix .
Experts have slightly different angle too . Rosalina Stancheva Christova ,a professor of aquatic ecology, said algae in pool is generally harmless, but monitoring ecosystem matters because visiting birds can introduce harmful bacteria .
So now park authorities have to handle repairs, algae, public anger, vandalism cases and anniversary pressure all together . And tbh,big question is still sitting there quietly… if approximately ₹13 million renovation could not stop this mess, what exactly will fix it now?
