Russian troops entering parts of city is not small thing ah,especially because this is not just another town in Donbas.
Kostyantynivka sits in eastern region of Donbas, and both Russian and Ukrainian forces are now fighting for control there . Ukrainian commanders are saying situation is still under their control, but at same time Russian presence inside city has made everything much harder.
Ukrainian soldiers are describing Kostyantynivka as a "grey zone"—basically area where neither side has full control . And that phrase itself tells you how messy ground situation has become.
One Ukrainian drone pilot said something that really shows difficulty of urban fighting: "They get into areas behind our backs, and in urban conditions,it's extremely difficult to push them out." That line feels simple, but it says a lot . Once troops enter streets, buildings, back lanes,it becomes very hard to clear them without huge risk.
Few things standing out clearly in this battle:
- Russian troops have infiltrated Kostyantynivka from multiple directions.
- Ukrainian commanders say defenses remain strong and situation is under control.
- If Kostyantynivka falls,it could open path toward Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.
And this is why city matters so much . Kostyantynivka is being seen as gateway to rest of Donbas region,so control here could affect what happens next around key Ukrainian strongholds like Kramatorsk and Sloviansk .
At same time,Ukrainian officials are pushing back against Russian claims of fast advances . They maintain that Ukraine has recaptured more territory than lost this year, which shows both sides are clearly trying to control not just ground, but narrative also.
Reports say Russian forces are trying to encircle Ukrainian military units inside city . That kind of pressure can become dangerous quickly, because once supply routes and movement lines get squeezed, defending becomes much more difficult .
Ukrainian forces are using drone technology to watch and counter Russian movements, while Russian forces are using artillery and air support against Ukrainian positions . So this is not only street-by-street fighting,it is also constant surveillance, firepower and adjustment from both sides.
And tbh,Kostyantynivka now feels like one of those battles where outcome may shape next phase in Donbas, but nobody can say clearly which way it will turn yet…
