Honestly, people are not even surprised now, they are just tired.
Areas like Shivne,Uttamnagar, and Kondhave Dhawade saw severe waterlogging after rain . Roads got flooded, traffic slowed badly and daily life was disturbed in very basic way . For residents, this is not some new monsoon problem,it is recurring headache every year.
And anger is mainly against Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) preparedness . People are asking simple question: if lakhs and crores are being spent on drainage and road infrastructure, then why are same flooding hotspots still drowning again and again?
Few things standing out clearly in this whole mess:
- Shivne,Uttamnagar, and Kondhave Dhawade faced severe waterlogging after first significant rainfall of southwest monsoon on June 22, 2026 .
- In Kondhave Dhawade, vehicle queues stretched nearly half a kilometer due to waterlogged roads .
- Residents said shops and homes suffered financial losses because floodwater damaged goods.
But residents are also saying this is not just about heavy rain . Their point is that years of poor planning, blocked natural drainage paths and weak maintenance have made situation worse . Many streams and drainage systems in Shivne and Kondhave Dhawade have allegedly been obstructed over time because of unchecked construction,so rainwater has nowhere proper to go .
And tbh, this is where it becomes more frustrating . In Kondhave Dhawade, heavy rain also exposed garbage issue, with waste blocking drainage inlets . Local resident Aniket Dhawade said,"I had to volunteer to manually remove debris blocking drains, and with some help,we managed to clear the water." That line says lot ah,when residents themselves have to clear drains during flooding.
People are also angry that sewerage system planning has not improved despite authorities being told about problem locations . Their complaint is simple,no meaningful drainage improvement has happened where it was actually needed .
Local leaders are now asking for permanent engineering solutions, not temporary patchwork before every monsoon . Because if same roads keep flooding,if same drains keep choking, then future heavy rain can easily cause accidents and more financial losses.
Deputy Engineer Rajesh Kharat has accepted that comprehensive stormwater drainage project is needed and said PMC would conduct technical survey for future planning . But residents are still doubtful because past drainage works have not given much confidence only.
And as monsoon continues, this question is hanging over Pune again… how many more rains before planning actually reaches ground level?
