This PCMC anti-encroachment drive is honestly not small thing ah,especially because 820 locations across Pimpri-Chinchwad have been cleared in just two-and-a-half-month campaign . For city where roads,footpaths and drains keep getting blocked slowly,this kind of action was expected for long time.
From April 1 to June 22 , 2026,the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation cleared over 1.04 lakh square meters of encroached public land . Operation was carried out under Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi,and main focus was unauthorized constructions blocking roads,footpaths and storm-water drains.
And when you look at numbers,it becomes clear this was not some small token action . Authorities identified and acted against 451 unauthorized constructions,clearing around 104,270.96 square meters of land . That is huge amount of public space coming back into usable condition.
But drainage part matters even more right now because monsoon season does not forgive blocked systems . PCMC also removed 23 encroachments from stormwater drains,clearing around 839 square meters of obstruction . If this helps avoid waterlogging even in some areas,people will feel difference directly .
Another big part was hawkers and street vendors . Officials removed 346 encroachments created by them,and this is where situation becomes sensitive also . Because footpaths should be for walking,but at same time many small vendors depend on these spots for daily income.
Few things standing out clearly in this drive:

- 23 stormwater drain encroachments and 346 hawker and street vendor encroachments were also removed.
The C Ward office recorded highest number of actions at 229,followed by other zonal offices . That also shows some areas had much heavier encroachment pressure than others,and maybe regular checks were needed earlier only.
Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi has urged residents not to support illegal constructions and to cooperate with civic authorities . Fair point,because encroachment does not happen in one day,it grows when everyone keeps adjusting quietly.
And tbh,clearing land is one part,but stopping it from coming back is real test . PCMC says efforts will continue with increased intensity,but in Indian cities,we have seen how fast footpaths and drains get occupied again if follow-up becomes weak…
