Big news coming from Odisha about new coastal highway project . Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by PM Modi, has finally given green signal for it .
This is not small thing ah . We are talking about ₹8,300 crore project connecting Rameshwar to Paradeep . The total distance is around 160.18 km and it will be built using the Hybrid Annuity Model or HAM .
And the biggest plus point for travellers is the time saving . They are saying it will cut travel time by about 2 hours and 30 minutes . That's huge for both passengers and freight trucks trying to move along that coast .
Apparently the existing road,NH-316,is not very good . It has poor road geometry and too much local commuter traffic which makes long distance travel very slow and difficult. This new highway is meant to solve that problem only.
And honestly, this feels like long overdue move for that region .
Few things standing out clearly from this plan:
- Highway will be four-lane from Rameshwar to Konark, designed for 100 km/h speed.
- It will directly improve transport for people in Khurda,Puri,Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur districts.
- It's also connecting nine Economic Nodes and five Logistic Nodes which should help local business .
This isn't just one random road project . It's part of the bigger Golden Quadrilateral plan and also fits into the PM GatiShakti vision . The idea is to have more integrated planning for all big infrastructure projects .
They are also claiming it will reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions . Better roads mean smoother travel,so that makes sense I guess. This will also hopefully improve India's Logistic Performance Index (LPI).
So the approval is here and money is allocated . But the main thing will be to see how fast the work actually gets done on ground . A project of this size always has its own challenges and delays…
