On June 21,2026,the UNESCO World Heritage town saw thousands turning up at Kandariya Mahadev Temple complex for 12th International Yoga Day .
And setting itself was not small thing ah. Kandariya Mahadev Temple complex already carries so much history, and then seeing public representatives, administrative officials, students and citizens doing yoga together there gave event different kind of energy.
Dilip Ahirwar, the Minister of State for Forest and Environment, attended as chief guest . His presence obviously added official weight to whole programme, but what stood out more was message around yoga being part of daily life, not just one-day photo event.
Participants also watched live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address from Kolkata . After that, people joined Common Yoga Protocol under trained instructors,so even those who were not regular yoga practitioners could follow along without feeling lost .
Few things clearly stood out from day:
- Thousands gathered at Kandariya Mahadev Temple complex in Khajuraho for 12th International Yoga Day.
- Dilip Ahirwar called yoga an invaluable heritage and spoke about making it part of daily routine for better health.
- Events also took place at Raja Yadvendra Singh Stadium in Nowgong and in Satai through local participation.
And honestly, this is where Yoga Day becomes more than just morning exercise. When same theme reaches temple complex, stadium and community spaces,it starts looking like wider public habit being encouraged from different sides .
There was also cultural performance by Chitrangana Agal Reshwal, the renowned pakhawaj artist, which gave event a more rooted feel . Yoga plus classical performance together somehow makes sense in India, because both come from discipline, practice and tradition only .
In Nowgong,large-scale yoga session happened at Raja Yadvendra Singh Stadium, where MLA Kamakhya Pratap Singh announced plans for stadium expansions . In Satai, residents joined community yoga organised by Brahma Kumaris and Nagar Parishad, showing that even smaller local setups were part of same mood .
But bigger question is always what happens after Yoga Day ends . People gather in thousands, leaders speak, events look beautiful, but will yoga actually enter daily routine of ordinary families, students and workers… or will it again wait for next June 21?
