On June 22,2026,opposition parties stood on steps of Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan and demanded full farm loan waiver from Devendra Fadnavis -led government.
This was not small symbolic thing ah. Leaders like Aaditya Thackeray of Shiv Sena (UBT) and Satej Patil from Congress were part of protest,and main point was simple: farmers are still stuck under debt pressure,and current relief is not enough according to opposition .
Government has already announced ₹36,585 crore farm loan waiver scheme,which is supposed to benefit around 56 lakh farmers . On paper,it sounds big. But opposition is saying real problem is conditions attached to scheme .
And this is where farmers usually get trapped. Scheme gets announced,amount looks huge,headlines come nicely,but when actual farmer goes to claim benefit,eligibility rules and cut-off dates decide everything .
Few key things standing out here:

But many farmers are worried that these same conditions may block them from getting help . And tbh,that fear is not surprising because loan waiver schemes often become complicated once paperwork starts.
With monsoon season approaching,this issue becomes even more sensitive. Farmers need money for crop cycle,repayments,inputs and family expenses,all at same time . Debt pressure during this period is not some small political talking point.
And now Maharashtra politics is heating up around this demand. Government says scheme is meant to give relief,opposition says it is not enough,and farmers are standing in middle waiting to see who actually gets support…
Because if relief exists only on paper,then what happens to farmer who misses one condition by small margin?
