Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Karamana has started jubilee celebrations for Agnisakshi, and seeing school take old Malayalam literature seriously like this is not small thing ah .
On June 20,2026 ,the school kicked off events for novel Agnisakshi ,written by renowned author and social reformer Lalithambika Antharjanam . Since book was first published in 1976,this is being marked as golden anniversary celebration.
And instead of keeping it as one formal stage program only, they began with public reading session . Cultural activist M. Ajayadev inaugurated it,which makes sense because Agnisakshi is not just some syllabus-type text,it carries social and emotional weight.
Principal Bilu V.B. also spoke about why novel still matters . Story of Namboothiri woman during reformist movement in Kerala is not just history lesson,it connects even now with questions around women's strength, resilience and place in society .
Few plans from school side are standing out:
- Public readings will be held in homes and local junctions to bring Agnisakshi to wider audience.
- Film screening based on Agnisakshi was also showcased as part of celebration.
- Reels featuring excerpts and audio books are being planned to reach more people .
And tbh, this part feels interesting because literature usually stays locked inside classrooms and libraries . Taking readings into community spaces makes it feel more alive, more local, more reachable for people who may never pick up novel otherwise.
The school is also planning audiovisual content, including reels and audio books,to promote Agnisakshi . Some may laugh at reels for classic literature, but honestly,if that is how younger crowd notices Lalithambika Antharjanam, then why not?
Her work has already received both Kendra and Kerala Sahitya Akademi awards, and her place in Malayalam literature is well known . But still, each generation has to rediscover these voices in its own way .
And maybe that is real question here . Will these readings, film screening, reels and audio books actually make more people sit with Agnisakshi again,or will it remain one more celebration people clap for and move past…
