IIT Delhi Achieves Highest Rank Among Indian Universities in QS World Rankings 2027

Key Takeaways

  • IIT Delhi ranks 118th in QS World Rankings
  • 52 Indian universities represented, a record high
  • Government reforms boost educational quality and access

Just saw the new QS World University Rankings 2027 and honestly,it's big news for India . IIT Delhi has climbed to 118th position, which is the highest any Indian university has ever achieved.

And it's not just about IIT Delhi only . The new rankings from QS Quacquarelli Symonds show a record 52 Indian universities on the list, which is amazing to see.

This is where it gets interesting ah . Since 2017,our representation in these rankings has gone up by 271% . We went from just 14 institutions to 52 now. This makes India fifth most represented education system globally.

Few key takeaways for me:

  • 26 Indian universities actually improved their ranks,though 15 did decline .
  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan says National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is helping.
  • Eleven of our universities are in top 100 globally for citations per faculty, which is huge .

And it's not just one institute doing all the work . IIT Bombay is close behind at 134th . Then you have IIT Madras at 170th and IIT Kharagpur at 205th. Even University of Delhi improved its rank to 322nd.

And honestly, this is what I find most encouraging.

The report says 18 institutions got their highest-ever ranking, and many of them are not even IITs . This shows that quality education is maybe spreading beyond just the top engineering colleges.

But it's not all perfect of course . We still have big hurdles in attracting international students and faculty . That is something needed for a truly global academic environment .

The report mentioned that our research impact and employability are getting better, but our reputation and internationalization need more work .

And with this whole Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, you have to wonder if these rankings are just numbers or if they will actually change things on the ground for students…
