So some pretty exciting news coming out for Indian athletics ah . Gurindervir Singh, the guy who just became national record holder in men's 100m,is now leading our team .
And this is a big deal . He's heading 29-member Indian team for the second Asian Relays Championships, which is happening on June 20 and 21 in Shangyu,China. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) made the announcement .
Honestly, this is a huge moment for Gurindervir . His record was something else,he became the first Indian to actually finish 100m in under 10.10 seconds . He clocked amazing 10.09 seconds. That’s not small thing.
That record-breaking run happened at the Federation Cup in Ranchi, and he beat old record by 0.06 seconds . But what's really interesting is that another guy,Animesh Kujur, also broke previous record just one day before Singh did his thing. competition is getting serious.
And this is where it gets good for whole team .
This championship in China is a major platform . Our athletes are going to compete in all six relay events,so men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m,plus the mixed events. It's a full lineup.
Few things to keep in mind here:
- Gurindervir Singh's big achievement was that 10.09 second 100m run,a new national record .
- The Asian Relays are set for June 20-21 in Shangyu,China, and our team is participating in all relays.
- India is also going to host the next championships in Chandigarh, which is huge news.
That hosting part is a big win for Indian athletics only . The decision was made during the Asian Athletics Association Council Meeting in Hong Kong . Getting to host the next edition means a lot more attention on sport here at home .
So with all this new talent and speed,it feels like our relay teams have a real chance to make some noise on the continental stage . It's a chance to show what they can do against best in Asia .
Everyone is watching to see how this contingent performs . It’s a glimpse into what the future of our athletics might look like, especially as we prepare to host the next one ourselves… what will they bring back from China...
