This whole issue from Uttar Pradesh is honestly not simple at all . On June 21, 2026,a group of Muslim Members of Parliament (MPs) from Uttar Pradesh came together over alleged targeted demolitions of historical heritage structures in state,and mood was clearly angry but also very careful.
And main point they made was this:if government takes one-sided action against Muslim heritage structures,it becomes not just local issue but something outsiders also start using against India . That is exactly what happened after Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari commented on threats facing 1,000-year-old Masjid Ganj Shaheeda in Varanasi .
Ghazipur MP Afzal Ansari strongly pushed back against Pakistan angle . He said,“I in strongest words condemn the statement of Pakistan’s President. Muslims of India need no lessons from Pakistan’s President. We are living peacefully,enjoying constitutional rights in our homeland India.”
But at same time,Ansari also hit out at government’s actions inside Uttar Pradesh . His argument was that such one-sided moves against Muslim heritage structures infringe on community’s religious and cultural rights . And this is where things become uncomfortable,because both things can be true at same time ah .
Few points standing out clearly here:
- MPs criticized government actions,saying they infringe on cultural rights .
- They condemned Pakistan's interference in India's internal matters.
- They stressed that Muslim community can address grievances through constitutional and democratic system .
Ansari also said Muslim community in Uttar Pradesh has enough strength to fight for historic sites within India’s own democratic framework,including independent judiciary . He even pointed out that Muslims in India enjoy better standard of living compared to those in Pakistan,basically rejecting Asif Ali Zardari’s narrative completely.
And tbh,Pakistan President’s statement seems to have made Indian MPs more firm in separating two issues . One side,they are angry over demolitions and want state authorities to stop such discriminatory actions . Other side,they are saying foreign leaders should not lecture India on internal matters.
Rajya Sabha member Javed Ali Khan said it directly:“We are sovereign democratic country. The Muslim community in Uttar Pradesh can deal with any grievance within the constitutional and democratic system.” That line pretty much sums up their stand.
Congress National Secretary Shahnawaz Alam also criticized government’s actions,warning that such moves give Pakistan chance to build narrative against India on religious freedoms . He called for following constitutional values that protect cultural rights and secular,pluralistic society .
And this is where real question stays hanging . If heritage,rights,politics and foreign commentary all get mixed like this,then who actually benefits from letting situation reach this point…
