Really sad news coming out for Indian badminton fans today . Our top pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had to pull out from Indonesia Open because of injury. And tbh,the timing is just terrible .
They were in their first-round match only,playing against Malaysian pair Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai . The score was 6-11 when Satwik just couldn't continue because of his shoulder . This is big tournament ah,so this is very disappointing.
And this isn't some new problem . It's that same shoulder injury that has been bothering Satwik for some time. It even made them miss the Badminton Asia Championship earlier this year.
Badminton Association of India (BAI) also put out statement about it . They said, "Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have withdrawn from the Indonesia Open 2026 due to the former’s injury. We wish Satwik speedy recovery and look forward to seeing the duo back on court soon."
And honestly,this is where things get so frustrating.
Just last week only,they made history by becoming first Indian men's pair to win Singapore Open . I remember watching that final against Indonesian pair Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri,they came back from one game down to win 18-21,21-17,21-16 . What a performance that was. Everyone's hopes were so high for this tournament too.

Still,the main focus is on Satwik and Chirag . They have become the face of Indian badminton,inspiring so many people. Their absence is definitely going to be felt.
Now the main focus has to be on Satwik's recovery and getting back to full fitness . With so many important tournaments coming up,you just hope this recurring issue gets sorted out properly… I just wonder what this means for their preparation for other big events now .
