Podanur Train Users’ Association has now formally asked Indian Railways to speed up doubling of railway track between Coimbatore North and Mettupalayam stations, and this demand does not feel random at all.
Reason is simple only . Railways are planning to upgrade Mettupalayam Railway Station into busy terminus,so naturally pressure on this route is going to increase . If station becomes bigger point for train movement but track remains single, then what is point ah?
N . Subramanian, general secretary of association, has stressed that infrastructure upgrade is needed because passenger traffic is rising. And anyone who has travelled on such single-line sections knows how one delay can disturb whole chain of trains.
Coimbatore and Mettupalayam are both major commercial and educational centres . Students, office workers, traders, daily passengers… so many people depend on this stretch. Existing single-track section has become bottleneck, limiting train frequency and causing delays.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Passenger demand is rising as more commuters need train services .
- Mettupalayam Railway Station being planned as terminal station makes track doubling more urgent.
- Double track can improve train operations, punctuality and service capacity .
And tbh, this is not some luxury demand . Track doubling would allow smoother train movement and also make space for more passenger and express services. For regular travellers, that means less waiting, less uncertainty and better daily travel .
The association has already sent representation to Divisional Railway Manager of Salem Railway Division, putting forward urgency of this long-pending demand. Now question is how fast railway authorities actually move on it.
But at same time, people have heard many such demands before also . Everyone knows improvement is needed, everyone knows passenger load is increasing, but actual work often takes its own time…
For commuters between Coimbatore North and Mettupalayam, this is not just about railway planning on paper . It is about everyday travel, missed timings, late arrivals and crowded trains. So now travelling public will be watching whether this request turns into action,or again stays stuck somewhere in files…
