Big political push happened on June 21,2026,and honestly,these are not small numbers ah . Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed large gatherings in Odisha and West Bengal and announced ₹47,600 crore development initiative for eastern India.
And this whole thing is being linked to central government’s Purvodaya policy. Idea being shown is simple,eastern states should not remain stuck with old struggles,but become serious part of India’s growth story . Sounds good on stage,but real test is always what reaches people on ground.
Big focus was also on farmers,especially because West Bengal got major share under PM-KISAN . Modi unveiled 23rd installment of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN),with direct transfer exceeding ₹18,880 crore to over 9.44 crore farmers across country.
For West Bengal alone,more than ₹907.21 crore was allocated to approximately 45.35 lakh beneficiaries. Total assistance under PM-KISAN has now gone over ₹15,055 crore since its inception in 2019 . That is not small figure,especially in state where rural politics and farmer issues always matter .

- Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) were introduced to cover nearly 1.10 crore farmers across 30 lakh hectares,with insured value of ₹28,140 crore.
- Investment package includes energy,railways,roads,irrigation,healthcare,and urban infrastructure projects in Odisha.
And in Odisha,Modi also spoke about turning natural resources into economic opportunities while addressing crowd in Rairangpur,Odisha. This point matters because Odisha has resources,but question has always been whether local people actually benefit enough from them .
He also said under current BJP state government,investment proposals have surged to nearly ₹20 lakh crore. Along with that,he announced plans to transform Pahadpur into a 'Solar Village',which is interesting because renewable energy sounds impressive,but village-level execution is where everything becomes complicated .
There was also personal and symbolic part. Modi conveyed birthday wishes to President Droupadi Murmu and acknowledged her role in enhancing Odisha's identity,plus her influence on marginalized communities . In Odisha,this definitely carries emotional weight .
In West Bengal,during visit for Paschimbanga Divas ,Modi connected state’s progress with changing political situation. He said people of West Bengal have regained confidence in democratic process,and also spoke about border security,corruption,and difference between current measures and previous governance issues.
And then came tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee,with reference to his role in keeping West Bengal connected to India during Partition. For younger generations,Modi said this legacy should be remembered. But beyond speeches,big money,big promises and historical messaging,real question is still same… will ordinary people in Odisha and West Bengal actually feel change in daily life or not…
