Just saw this news about Asaduddin Owaisi talking about voter lists, and the numbers he mentioned are genuinely shocking . He is claiming that a huge number of names have just vanished from electoral rolls.
On June 3,the AIMIM chief raised some very serious concerns about something called Special Intensive Revision (SIR) . He said that because of this process, around 6.5 crore names have been deleted across 13 states and union territories. That is not small number ah.
And he is worried this could create a permanent group of excluded Indians who can't vote . He even said on social media that government's actions are threatening democratic rights for a lot of people.
Owaisi's point is that right to vote is very important, especially for poor and marginalized communities . He said, "The right to vote is the poor's only weapon against the powerful." Without this, government can do anything without any accountability.
And honestly, this is where things get uncomfortable.
He is saying this whole revision process is hitting Muslims, women, and economically weaker groups the hardest . If that is true, then it's a very serious problem for our democracy .
Few things standing out from his statement:
- 6.5 crore names deleted — Owaisi claimed this figure reflects significant disenfranchisement across multiple states .
- Committee proposal criticized — The government announced a committee to study exclusions, which Owaisi believes is a move to legitimize ongoing discrimination .
- Fear of exclusion — Owaisi pointed out that many citizens face uncertainty about their voting rights and access to government benefits .
Owaisi also criticized constant need for documentation . He said, "This government loves making Indians waste their time on documentation," which tbh,so many people feel when dealing with any government work. It's endless paperwork.
But he also pointed finger at the Election Commission of India (ECI) for not being transparent about these exclusions . He noted that nobody has clear data on how many people were removed because they were considered foreigners.
This lack of information just makes whole situation more confusing and scary for people who might be affected . It feels like this is creating a climate of fear and paranoia for certain communities only.
With so many names apparently just wiped from the lists, you have to wonder what is the real story here . And what happens to all these people now…
