Things are really getting intense in West Bengal politics rn . Kolkata Police has arrested Arijit Das Thakur,a Trinamool Congress councillor, and he's the third one in just 24 hours . This whole situation is becoming very serious.
Arijit Das Thakur is from ward number 106 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) . He was arrested on June 3 on charges of extortion and corruption.
According to police,he was allegedly extorting money from local businessmen and promoters . Basically using threats to mess with their construction and business work. whole investigation started after someone filed a written complaint against him. After interrogation, officers from Garfa police station took him into custody .
And honestly, this is where it gets more complicated.
This arrest happened right after another councillor,Sachin Singh from ward number 36,was detained . He was facing similar allegations, extortion and intimidating his opponents. But when he was arrested, some local people actually protested, which shows how divided opinions are on ground .
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- Arijit Das Thakur's arrest is third for a TMC councillor in 24 hours .
- Allegations are serious, extorting money from local businesses.
- Another councillor's arrest,Sachin Singh,led to local protests.
This feels like a much bigger crackdown on corruption linked to Trinamool Congress leaders . Another councillor,Sudip Polle, was also arrested earlier for extortion. It seems police have really ramped up their efforts, especially since BJP came to power in the state.
And this is not small thing ah . It raises some very uncomfortable questions about what's happening inside the Trinamool Congress and how its members are behaving. With so much police action and public attention, the party is definitely facing a challenge to its reputation.
What happens next is anyone's guess . Police are still investigating these cases, and it feels like more things might come out…
