This Karnataka BJP cross-voting story has taken rather unusual turn now . After unexpected cross-voting by its legislators during Legislative Council elections, party is not just talking discipline in usual political language,it is planning loyalty oath at temple town of Dharmasthala .
And honestly, this says lot about how serious situation has become inside party.
On June 21,2026,Karnataka BJP announced that its MLAs will be taken to Dharmasthala, where they are expected to take oath before deity,Lord Manjunatha . Idea seems simple but also very symbolic, using local belief that dishonesty before deity could jeopardize one's future.
This is not small thing ah . When political loyalty has to be reaffirmed before deity,it clearly means normal trust inside party ranks has already taken hit badly .
B Y Vijayendra, state BJP President, has said he is determined to find out who was responsible for cross-voting . He is also expected to work with opposition leader R Ashok to organize this meeting and push message of unity inside party.
But real issue is bigger than one oath only. Reports say BJP transferred four extra votes to JD(S),but still lost votes to Congress . That is where whole calculation went wrong and BJP's ally,JD(S),faced significant defeat.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Cross-voting has raised serious concerns about party unity and loyalty.
- MLAs will take oath at Dharmasthala before Lord Manjunatha .
- Leadership of B Y Vijayendra and R Ashok is now under scrutiny .
And tbh, this also puts pressure back on leadership. If MLAs are not following party line during Legislative Council elections, then questions will naturally come about influence of state leaders over their own members.
Vijayendra and Ashok now have difficult job ahead . They have to restore confidence, control damage and show that party still has internal discipline after this setback.
But whether oath at Dharmasthala can actually fix political mistrust inside Karnataka BJP,or whether it only shows how deep problem has already gone… that question is still hanging.
