She clinched India's sole gold medal there, and that too against strong opponent.
Jyoti faced Uzbekistan's Farzona Fozilova, the reigning World Boxing Cup champion from Brazil . Beating such boxer is not small thing ah. And score was not close also,Jyoti won by commanding 5-0 unanimous decision.
But what makes this win feel even better is timing and level of opponent . When Indian boxer beats reigning champion on global stage,it sends clear message that she is not just participating, she is climbing seriously in boxing ranks.
Few things standing out from India's campaign:
- Jyoti won India's sole gold medal with 5-0 unanimous decision against Farzona Fozilova.
- India also won three silver medals through Minakshi,Prachi and Deepak .
- Overall medal tally was six medals: 1 gold,3 silver,and 2 bronze.
And India did not stop at Jyoti only. Minakshi, competing in 51kg category, reached final but lost 0-5 against China's Wu Yu . Still, her run matters because she moved up in weight class to challenge herself further, and reaching final there says something.
Prachi also had impressive run in 57kg category, but she fell short against Uzbekistan’s Nigina Uktamova with score of 0-5 . Deepak too earned silver in men's 70kg category after hard-fought match, losing 0-5 to Kazakhstan’s Ablaikhan Zhussupov .
Before finals,India had already secured two bronze medals through Jugnoo in 85kg category and Nikhil in 55kg category . So final count became 1 gold,3 silver, and 2 bronze, which is honestly solid performance at World Boxing Cup .
And tbh, what I like here is that multiple Indian boxers were not just hanging around tournament, they were reaching finals and podiums across different weight categories . That shows depth, not just one lucky medal.
But at same time, those 0-5 final losses also show how tough next step is . Silver is big achievement,no doubt, but turning those finals into golds is where real grind starts .
For now,Jyoti’s gold will give huge confidence to Indian boxing setup, and others also showed they can compete internationally . Question is whether this momentum turns into bigger results in upcoming international challenges…
