Was just reading this report about tea in India and it's actually quite surprising ah. I always thought everyone just sticks to their regular Adrak Chai, but looks like things are changing very fast.
We all know Adrak Chai is the cornerstone, but consumers are trying all sorts of new things now. The biggest surprise is Ready-To-Drink teas, which have shown a staggering growth rate of 109% year-on-year . That's not small number .
And get this, the popularity of Peach Tea has grown by over 62x . I had to read that twice . Sixty-two times growth, can you believe it only.
It's not just fruity teas . Other things like Blue Pea Tea,Kombucha, and Tulsi Tea are also getting popular now . Seems like people are looking for drinks that are also good for health, not just for taste.
And honestly, this is where things get interesting .
This report from one food delivery platform pointed out few key things:
- Bengaluru is ordering the most tea in country, followed by Mumbai and Hyderabad.
- Busy lifestyles are big reason, people want quick grab-and-go tea options.
- Sunday is peak day for tea purchases across India for some reason.
But don't worry, our classic chai is not going anywhere . The top five teas are still Adrak Chai,Plain Black Tea,Elaichi Tea,Green Tea,and Masala Chai. Adrak Chai remains the most ordered tea variety in major cities . So old habits are still strong.
And this trend is not just for metros rn. Even smaller cities like Bhubaneswar and Thiruvananthapuram are seeing rapid growth in tea consumption. So it's happening everywhere, not just in big cities.
This whole shift just shows how our tastes are evolving . We want the comfort of tradition but also excitement of something new at same time.
It makes you wonder what the next big thing for our daily cup of chai will be… maybe some other flavour will explode next year…
