On June 20,2026,Government Railway Police (GRP) seized 12 kg of ganja at Jolarpet railway station in Tirupattur, and whole thing came out during surprise inspection .
This was under Operation Narcos, special drive against illegal transportation of narcotics and other hazardous materials on trains . Police were checking halted trains, basically trying to stop such movement before it spreads further .
During routine check of express train going to Chennai, officers found two abandoned tourist bags . And inside those bags, they found ganja weighing total 12 kg . Not small thing ah,especially inside public transport.
Initial investigation says one gang of three individuals may be behind this consignment . They reportedly ran away after realizing police personnel were boarding train for inspection.
And tbh, that one detail says lot . They knew exactly what was in those bags and left everything behind the moment police came close.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Operation Narcos is targeting drug trafficking in trains .
- CCTV footage is under review to identify suspects.
- Case has been registered by GRP .
Police are now checking CCTV footage from railway station to see movement of suspects before and after incident . GRP has launched investigation and says efforts are still going on to catch people involved.
At same time, this also shows how railway stations have become easy points for such illegal transport if checking is not strict . One express train, two tourist bags, and suddenly 12 kg of ganja is sitting there like normal luggage .
GRP is also asking public to stay alert and report suspicious activity linked to drug-related crimes . But bigger question is how many such consignments may be moving quietly before anyone notices…
