One slightly different kind of campus news came from Visakhapatnam, and honestly,it felt nice to see doctors and dentists being celebrated properly instead of usual political noise . On June 20,2026,GITAM University hosted joint graduation ceremony for GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR) and GITAM Dental College.
Total 305 graduates were part of ceremony, coming from MBBS,BDS,MD/MS,and MDS programs . Not small number ah,especially when country keeps talking about shortage of good healthcare professionals.
Dr . C.N. Manjunath, esteemed cardiologist and Member of Parliament, was chief guest at event . His message to graduates was very direct also — ethics, good communication, and proper physical examinations still matter in healthcare field .
And tbh, this part stood out most . He said technology like AI and machine learning will not replace healthcare professionals, because human judgment is still needed for systematic disease analysis . In today’s time, that reminder feels very real .
Few things clearly came up during ceremony:
- Graduates were recognised for training under Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum.
- Dr. Manjunath praised central government efforts to improve healthcare access and affordability.
- Rural healthcare needs got special focus, with push for incentives for doctors serving underserved communities.
Dr. Manjunath also spoke about government initiatives like expanding medical college seats and welfare programs such as Ayushman Bharat . He mentioned free HPV vaccinations for young girls too, which is something many families still don’t fully understand but can matter a lot.
One proposal he made was about rewarding NEET-PG aspirants who agree to serve in rural areas after completing MBBS . And honestly, this sounds practical, provided system actually supports doctors who go there and not just sends them without proper facilities .
M. Sribharath,Visakhapatnam MP and GITAM president, also said something similar about technology . Robotic surgery and new medical tools may change treatment methods, but they cannot replace skilled surgeons . That line makes sense because patient trust is not built by machine only.
He also urged new doctors to understand why healthcare costs are rising and to rebuild public trust through compassionate service . Big words in convocation halls are easy, but when these 305 graduates step into real hospitals, real patients, and real pressure… that is where actual test starts…
